Students who elect to take the BA (Hons) Business general degree can expand the core business modules with three electives and core modules from any specialisation. In the second and third year, the programme elective can be any module available within the New Business School. In the fourth year, students can select from the wide choice of specialist modules offered by the University of Westminster, including foreign language study and training in effective research techniques, or they can broaden their study with a new subject such as Media, or specialise in a completely different area.
The general degree course is suitable for students who have not yet chosen the focus of their future business career and wish to keep all their options open. The use of a generic name will allow you to emphasise a specific aspect of your personal module portfolio when applying for a general management position.
In the second year, students are introduced to all the fundamental business concepts in the core modules marketing, finance, human resources management, communications and law. This will provide broad business knowledge and the academic background necessary for conceptual thinking, writing and business analysis skills. Two second year projects, Project Management and Product Development, allow students to immediately apply the academic theories they have learnt, and to practice solving basic business problems independently and within their study group.
In the third year, students learn to develop their research, evaluation, analytical and synthetic skills further and begin to consider career directions. In the two second year projects, Running your own Company and Managing Sales & Accounts, students are able to gain experience as a manager first hand.
During the fourth year, the wide selection of modules offered by the University of Westminster provides challenging opportunities for further specialisation. The final project depends on the location of the company which offers you the final project assignment, and may take place anywhere in the world.
