Business & Human Capital

Ultimately, every company is only as good as its employees and in a rapidly changing global environment, Human Resource Management (HRM) is one of the cornerstones of business and a vital ingredient for its success. In addition to the traditional role of handling day-to-day stand and administrative issues, companies expect HRM to provide significant strategic value.

For HR Managers to be recognised as strategic business partners, they need to be business generalists. In addition to fundamental HR knowledge, they must be well-informed about finance, marketing, communication, domestic & international law, and sales & accounts. This is why the Human Capital specialisation of the BA Business degree combines general business competencies with the specific requirements of HRM.

In the second year, students are introduced to the theoretical aspects of finance, marketing, communication and law and will learn about the fundamental concepts of HRM. In the second semester, they also follow the specially designed core Business & Change Management module. Two second year projects, Project Management and HR Product Development, allow students to immediately apply the academic theories they have learned, and to practice solving basic HR problems independently and within their study group.

In the third year, the academic programme focuses on Organisation Development, Organisation, Change Management, Employability, Recruitment and Selection, and, in the fourth semester, the core module Human Capital & New Business Models. HR expertise and skills are also be contextualised within two projects that put the student in the position of a virtual HR consultant or HR adviser in student-run companies.

During the fourth year, the wide selection of modules offered by the University of Westminster provides challenging opportunities for further specialization and deepening of your profession. The Final Project can be realised anywhere in the world, depending on the location of the company that provided the final assignment.

The types of careers available to Business & Human Capital majors include: HR consultant in governmental or business organisations, consultant in employment agency, personnel officer, organisation consultant, union adviser, HR business entrepreneur and recruitment and selection officer.
