Being an entrepreneur today means developing new business operations with calculated risk and a proactive attitude. At the New Business School, students develop entrepreneurial attitude and skills through hands on training in creative market sensing, creating a profit margin, the creation of activity plans, and reporting on newly discovered business models, new products and new content. The influence of technological innovation on business practice is also a key subject of study. In other words, students study today’s dynamic new business sectors in order to become tomorrow’s entrepreneur.
In the second year, students are introduced to the fundamental concepts of new entrepreneurship in the core modules: Introduction to New Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Creative Techniques and explore critical core theory concerning marketing, finance, human resources management, communications and law will provide you with the academic background necessary for business analysis. Two second year projects, Project Management and Product Development, allow students to immediately apply the academic theories they have learned, and to practice solving basic business problems independently and within their study group.
In the third year, marketing skills and practices are contextualised within a holistic study of wider business practice and the integrative functions and operations prevalent within the business world. Students will further develop their enquiry, evaluation, analysis and synthesis skills and start to consider future career directions. The two projects, Running Your Own Company and Managing Sales & Accounts, put the student in the seat of a virtual new entrepreneur.
During the fourth year, the wide selection of modules offered by the University of Westminster provides challenging opportunities for further specialisation. Those interested in the design dimension, for instance, will be able to study Identities and Image Management together with Knowledge, Innovation and New Product Development and Brand Management. Similarly, the courses Developing a Small Business, Business-to-Business Marketing, and Direct Marketing offer combinations both for aspiring entrepreneurs and for future creative members of larger organisations.
The final project may be realised anywhere in the world depending on the location of the company offering the final project assignment.
