In a fast changing and increasingly competitive business environment, marketing is possibly the single most critical factor for the continued success of an organisation. Marketing, entrepreneurship and the development of new business operations share many areas of commonality, such as analytical skills, innovation and creativity, calculated risk taking and a proactive attitude. The New Business School stimulates these capabilities and values through training in creative market sensing, guidance in designing and implementing cost accounting systems, and practice in planning and implementing marketing programmes. Sales and marketing fine-tuning is one of the major issues considered.
In year two, students are introduced to the fundamental concepts of marketing and entrepreneurial management and explore critical core theory concerning, finance, human resource management, communications and law. Two second year projects, Project Management and Product Development, allow students to immediately apply the academic theories they have learned, and to practice solving basic business problems independently and within their study group.
In the third year, marketing skills and practices are contextualised within a holistic study of wider business practices and the general functions and operations prevalent in the business world. The two projects Running Your Own Company and Managing Sales & Accounts put the student firmly in the manager’s driving seat.
During the fourth year, the wide selection of modules offered by the University of Westminster provides challenging opportunities for further specialisation. These modules cover subjects including: Innovation and New Product Development, Brand Management, Developing a Small Business Development, Business-to-Business Marketing and Direct Marketing. Any number of individually selected combinations is available both for aspiring entrepreneurs and for future creative members of larger organisations.
The final project may be realised anywhere in the world depending on the location of the company offering the final project assignment. The types of careers available to graduates of this programme include: Brand Manager, Market Research Executive or Analyst, Advertising and Promotions Manager, Marketing Manager and Customer Relations Executive.
